Frequently Asked Questions

Q:    I don't have any yoga experience. Can I still enroll in the teacher training?
A:    We do not have a rule requiring that students have a certain amount of yoga experience before enrolling in the ISHTA TT program. However there are various styles of yoga, so we strongly recommend that you first practice yoga to determine the style that is suited to you.
In ISHTA yoga, we believe that it is essential for teachers to understand all aspects of yoga so please be prepared to study seriously. Many people from different fields have completed the course.

Q:     I do not plan to teach yoga right away. Will I still benefit from taking the TT course?
A:     Yes. Many people enroll in the course just to deepen their understanding and personal practice of yoga. The curriculum is focused not only on training you to become a teacher, but also on helping you to develop a stronger practice. Our students come from many different fields and backgrounds.

Q:    What will I study in the lectures?
A:    Our program consists of many different subjects, including asanas, anatomy, ayurveda, pranayama, meditation and philosophy. In addition, students are required to attend ISHTA yoga studio classes. All material is taught from the unique perspective of ISHTA yoga.

Q:    When are the lectures held?
A:    Lecture times vary each time. In previous teacher trainings, students have been required to attend two week-long intensive sessions, covering anatomy and yoga philosophy, history, pranayama and meditation. Also in past trainings we have held the lectures in the afternoon.
In addition to the intensive sessions, students attend a four-hour asana lecture one day a week (the lecture takes place on the same day and time each week).
All students are also required to attend regular ISHTA yoga studio classes at Be Yoga. On average, students must attend three of these classes per week.

Q:    For the studio classes at Be Yoga, how much do I have to pay?
A:    No extra fee is required for these classes. During the TT program, you are encouraged to attend as many of our studio classes as you can. The cost is covered in your enrollment fee.

Q:    I have a full-time job. Are there alternative times for the lectures?
A:    No. Each lecture is offered only once and is required to complete the course. If you miss a lecture, you can make it up in the next TT session, or depending on the content, possibly arrange a special make-up session. We understand that emergency situations do occur, and we will do our best to help you make up any missed content. But please understand that all lectures are required.

Q:    I have read that some lectures are in English. I don't speak English. What should I do?
A:    For any lectures in English, a Japanese translator will be present. English-speaking or -reading ability is not required to enroll in our program.

Be Yoga ISHTA Teacher Trainings are available in English as well as Japanese. Our English program, however, may not be offered each time. Please check our Web site for additional program information. Inquires may be sent to info@beyogajapan.com.
