Meg ・M

Meg has been a nationally ranked collegiate rowing crew team member, as well as a fervent practitioner of running, aerobics and weight training for some twenty years. She first discovered Yoga at her local rec center nine years ago after the birth of her first child, and was hooked. She finds that yoga offers wonderful stress relief and the elation of rigorous physical activity while reversing all those years of wear and tear on her body. A student of Iyengar yoga, Kripalu yoga, and ISHTA yoga, Meg is eager to share her devotion to the physical, emotional and contemplative benefits of Yoga with those who may or may not share her love of athletics, but surely seek peace of mind.

Carol ・R

Like many people, after sustaining a back injury 6 years ago, Carol heard yoga could help her recovery. Approaching yoga from the physical side she was pleasantly surprized at the results. Not only did it help, it strengthened her whole body. The deeper and sometimes overlooked non-physical aspects of yoga have been the biggest discovery, and continues to be. Carol has found ISHTA Yoga to be an open and accepting style and she is extremely happy to be a part of the Be Yoga Japan Team.

Gretchen・ B

Originally from Massachusetts, U.S.A., Gretchen has lived in a number of different states within the U.S., as well as France, Switzerland, China and Taiwan. She came to Japan in 2000 when her husband's work brought the family to Tokyo. Gretchen has been an avid sports enthusiast her whole life. She played collegiate tennis, and later became involved in sprint-distance and international-distance triathlon, rough-water swimming and marathon. She discovered yoga in 2002 after the birth of her second child and immediately appreciated the relaxation and stress-reduction benefits that accompany the physical yoga workout. As she moved from a post-natal state to a renewed level of fitness, ISHTA yoga, with its focus on the unique requirements of the individual, provided the flexibility to adapt to her changing needs. While some of her past sporting endeavors are no longer part of her daily routine, Gretchen has found in ISHTA yoga an individual workout for body and mind that can provide lifelong enjoyment and benefits.
Kaz・O

Kazuko first experienced yoga in high school, long before the yoga boom. Over the years, she has practiced Iyengar, Hatha, Bikram, prenatal and ISHTA yoga, which she especially enjoys for its safe approach to alignment and natural flow. Kaz started out interested in the physical aspect of yoga but now thoroughly enjoys the mental and spiritual benefits of her practice. She loves the balance that yoga brings to her busy life with her family and 3 children in Tokyo.

Michael・ G

If there is one bit of awareness above all others that I hope to pass on as a yoga teacher, it is that fulfillment comes in ongoing practice, not in the achievement of some end goal. Starting out I had the  intention of teaching yoga to athletes, primarily runners. But it  didn't take long to learn that the words that I had to offer athletes are no different from the words I'd offer to anyone who practices yoga
for relaxation, inspiration, contemplation or other reason: Devote yourself to your own practice, and with the expanded awareness you gain, find balance in life. Keeping that balance, of course, is an ongoing process. Goal lines inevitably prove illusory. Yet, your
success is assured. You can only fail by ceasing to try.

Kaori・T
Kaori Takahashi teaches restorative yoga. She believes that the journey to contentment and comfort in the body is not a race, but rather a lifelong path best explored in a state of repose. Knowing the power of restorative yoga to refresh and expand both body and mind, she hopes to share her enthusiasm for taking the time to do nothing but relax in the present moment. Her interest in restorative yoga developed under Judith Lasater, with whom she has completed a teacher-training program and is certified. Through workshops in Anusara therapeutics and Thai massage, she has continued to expand her knowledge of the body and perspective on how to bring it into a healthier state. Kaori grew up in London and Tokyo and, being fully bi-lingual, teaches her classes in both English and Japanese.
